3M™ Perfect-it™ Fine Foam Polishing Pad is a soft foam polishing pad designed to polish out fine scratches that occur during polishing. The waffle structure increases the contact area on contoured surfaces compared to flat hand pads. At the same time, heat build-up is reduced, and swirl marks are eliminated. In addition, the polishing compound is absorbed more effectively, enabling clean work without splashing.

We developed these polishing pads for use with our 3M™ Perfect-It™ Color-Coded Polishing System. The polishing pad removes swirl marks left by foam or wool pads when the finest finish is required. The polishing result depends on the combination of paint type, polishing compound, and tools used. Our foam pads are specifically designed for the unique chemical composition of ever-evolving paint and clear coat technologies. Foam pads are generally less aggressive and produce a finer finish than wool pads. They are used at 1,200 to 2,000 revolutions per minute to remove fine scratches, swirl marks caused by polishing, and surface damage. Foam polishing pads are used in combination with machine polishes and are suitable for use with rotary and random-orbit sanders. Our 3M™ Perfect-It™ System is designed to produce a like-new finish with vibrant colors and a deep gloss. Our system uses a progressive series of abrasives and polishing pads, as well as specialized polishes, throughout the various stages of a repair. The steps include sanding, scratch repair, polishing, machine polishing, and, for dark colors, swirl removal if necessary. The amount of work and the steps required for a paint repair depend on the severity of the paint defect.
