3M Cold-Shrink Tubing

The 3M™ 8420 and 8430 Cold-Shrink Insulation Tubes are the ideal solution for fast, secure, and tool-free electrical insulation. They are specifically designed for the primary insulation of solid-dielectric insulated wires and cable splices up to 1,000 volts and are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

The innovative cold-shrink system is based on a pre-stretched EPDM tube with a removable support spiral. After positioning, the spiral is removed—the tube contracts immediately and forms a permanent, watertight, and elastic seal, without the need for heat or special tools.

Made from high-quality EPDM rubber, which is chloride- and sulfur-free, the tubing offers excellent weather, moisture, and temperature resistance from -40 °C to +90 °C. They flexibly adapt to different cable cross-sections and provide a reliable seal against environmental influences, even in communication or non-electrical applications.

In addition to electrical insulation, the cold-shrink tubing provides mechanical protection and is ideal for wire branches, cable jacket terminations, and connections between wires and cables. For applications with heavy UV exposure, an additional wrap with Scotch® Super 33+™ Vinyl Insulation Tape or Scotch® Silicone Rubber Tape 70 is recommended.
