3M Cold-Shrink Tubing

The 3M™ 8420 and 8430 Cold-Shrink Insulation Tubes offer a safe, durable, and tool-free solution for insulating and sealing cable connections. They were specifically developed for the primary insulation of solid-insulated wires and cable splices up to 1,000 volts and are suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.

The innovative cold-shrink system consists of pre-stretched EPDM tubing supplied on a removable support spiral. Once positioned, the spiral is simply removed—the tube contracts automatically to form a permanent, watertight, and elastic seal without the need for heat or special tools.

The high-quality EPDM material is chloride- and sulfur-free, providing excellent weather, moisture, and temperature resistance – from -40 °C to +90 °C. The tubing flexibly adapts to various cable cross-sections and ensures reliable mechanical protection as well as shielding against environmental influences.

In addition to electrical insulation, the cold-shrink tubing is also suitable for sealing communication cables, cable branches, and cable jacket end terminations. For applications with continuous UV exposure, an additional wrap with Scotch® Super 33+™ Vinyl Insulation Tape or Scotch® Silicone Rubber Tape 70 is recommended.
