3M Cold-Shrink Tubing

The 3M™ 8420 and 8430 Cold Shrink Insulation Tubes are innovative EPDM insulation tubes for fast, tool-free, and permanent insulation of cables and wires. They are specifically designed for the primary insulation of solid-insulated wires and cable splices up to 1,000 volts and are suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.

The unique 3M™ Cold Shrink System is supplied pre-stretched on a removable support spiral. After positioning, the spiral is simply removed—the tubing automatically contracts to form a reliable, watertight seal. This active recovery of the high-quality EPDM rubber ensures a durable, elastic seal and effectively protects the connection from moisture, dust, and mechanical stress.

The hoses are chloride- and sulfur-free, offer high weather and temperature resistance from -40 to +90 °C, and are available for various cable cross-sections. In addition to electrical insulation, they are also ideal for sealing communication lines or non-electrical connections, for example during cable jacket repairs or cable entries.

For applications with heavy UV exposure, an additional wrap with Scotch® Super 33+™ vinyl insulating tape or Scotch® silicone rubber tape 70 is recommended.
