3M™ 1205 Polyimide Insulation Tape is an insulation tape with a polyimide film backing. This flame-retardant tape is suitable for applications requiring a thin insulating material for wrapping transformers, capacitors, and cable harnesses. This tape withstands a temperature range of 40 to 155 °C without losing its electrical properties or tensile strength.

The 3M™ Polyimide Film 1205 is characterized primarily by extreme temperature resistance and excellent dielectric properties. In combination with a solvent-resistant acrylic adhesive, it forms a high-performance blend of mechanical, electrical, thermal, and chemical properties that remain stable within a temperature range of –40 °C to +155 °C. This makes the insulating tape part of insulation class F. The tape, which is 0.076 millimeters thick, withstands a breakdown voltage of 7,500 volts and is flame-retardant according to UL 510. The polyimide film is therefore particularly suitable for applications where it is exposed to high temperature fluctuations, especially for masking contacts when soldering printed circuit boards. Since it is printable, it can also be used effectively for cable bundling and labeling, among other applications.
