3M™ Polyimide Insulation Tape 1205 is an insulation tape with a polyimide film backing. This flame-retardant tape is suitable for applications requiring a thin insulating material for wrapping transformers, capacitors, and cable harnesses. This tape withstands a temperature range of 40 to 155 °C without losing its electrical properties or tensile strength.
In combination with a solvent-resistant acrylate adhesive, it forms a high-performance blend of mechanical, electrical, thermal, and chemical properties that remain stable within a temperature range of –40 °C to +155 °C. This places the insulating tape in insulation class F. The tape, which is 0.076 millimeters thick, withstands a breakdown voltage of 7,500 volts and is flame-retardant according to UL 510. The polyimide film is therefore particularly suitable for applications where it is exposed to high temperature fluctuations, especially for masking contacts when soldering printed circuit boards. Since it is printable, it can also be used effectively for cable bundling and labeling, among other applications.
